Go Boo! cookies for the Go Bo! Foundation Bake sale!

(pssssst....there's a bake sale coming)

It's funny that when we think about angels, we imagine they have wings and halos.

And maybe some of them do.
Maybe they float and fly and watch over us all from up above.

But...what if there were other angels?

What if they looked just like everybody else....but their spirit shined just a bit brighter.

What if they inspired everyone around them to see things differently,
to help any way they could,
to appreciate all the small things that are taken for granted everyday.

What if the courage of one young boy, with a form of cancer he could no longer fight, used the last of his strength to inspire hundreds and thousands of people to help other kids win their fight.

Would you call him an angel?

I would.

This angel's name was Bo Johnson.
He left this world on September 28th 2012, at the age of 12,
but his inspiration and love has only grown.

The Go Bo Support Group that lifted his spirits, has become the
Go Bo Foundation and continues to pay it forward in his honor.

They are working hard to paint the world orange and keep Bo's spirit alive.

This year I'm thrilled to be participating in the 2nd annual Go Bo! Foundation Bake sale,

Along with hundreds of other bakers, we have painted the nation orange!

If you're in Wisconsin I hope you'll stop by the event.
It's grown so big it now spans two weekends,
October 12th and October 20th.

This year the cookies are all Halloween and Autumn themed.

(Since Bo was quite the jokester, I'm thinking he might have liked the humor of a Go Boo! cookie
for the Go Bo! Foundation)

If you are too far away, you can still make a donation to the foundation on their website.

...or...

perhaps you'll also be inspired by Bo and find a way to help in your own community.

Go Bo!

Jungle Safari Baby Shower Cookies!

When we left off, I had a jillion sports-themed baby shower cookies ready to go...
then I heard about a little switch up in theme.

These gals found super cute decorations and plates they couldn't pass up....
animal print baby shower decorations and plates.

Huh.

I needed to incorporate jungle themed safari print cookies.

Admittedly, Katie was thrilled with all the sports cookies and didn't want me to change a thing.

But....I couldn't help myself.

They all worked pretty well together!

I had never made leopard cookies before, but I knew some really great ladies that had.

It was time to Google some tutorials!

I love Sweet Ambs video tutorials.

I watched her leopard print video a few times before tackling these.

So fun!

I love wet-on-wet designs for cookies.

So that took care of leopard...but the plates were half zebra too.

One of the very first tutorials I ever watched was for Sugarbelle's zebra cookies.

Before that, I had no idea there were cookie ladies out there
who showed you how to make cute cookies and wrote blogs with lots of pictures!

Way back when I made zebra print flip-flops...

But not this time!

*pssst*

Sugarbelle also has leopard tutorials,
one of which is for lingerie cookies with leopard details.

But that would have been more of a
"Here's how you got yourself into this situation" baby shower.

Adding one more theme would have done me in.

So this little tale has a moral.

Lots of themes which seemingly don't work well together...CAN!

Just change up your colors!

Katie said the shower was lots of fun and the Mama-To-Be loved everything!

YAY!!!

I promise that's it for baby cookies for awhile....
I have a few more but I'll save them for later.

It's Halloween time!!!!

All-Star Baby Shower Cookies!

(fyi....this post was originally titled "How to give a cookie lady a heart attack")

(part one...)

My niece Katie recently co-hosted a baby shower for one of her best girlfriends.

They knew the Mommy-to-Be was having a boy and loves sports so the
party theme was really easy to choose.

Katie said the parents love the Michael Jordan logo,
so I did my best to incorporate that without making it too obvious.

I used a projector and a teeny-tiny little liner brush
to paint the logo on using black food coloring mixed with a little clear alcohol.

Of course, it's not a shower without party favors...

I love those pretzel bags for tying up mini cookies!

A few days before I needed to ship these,
I gave Katie a call to get a final head count for the favors and hear how the planning was going.

This is when things got a bit......interesting.

"Hi Katie!  How are you??"

"Hi Aunt Elizabeth, I'm good!  Just busy with work and the party planning."

"Well, I won't keep you...I'm just calling to double check the head count and confirm the details...."

(then there was a lot of back and forth....45 people...baby's name is Elijah....Mom is Robbie...etc.)

"I just saw the balloons my friend ordered for the party.
They're really cute and match the plates and napkins..."

"How fun! Are they giant sports balls or did she find a Michael Jordan balloon?"

"No....they're like a jungle safari type print....."

**silence**

"They're...so it's...wait...what about...um...WHAT!!!!"

(to be continued)
