Joe and I spent our first Christmas together in a
cozy little corporate apartment in Texas.
We made it as festive as we could
with a little live tree and our first few ornaments.
Joe surprised me with tickets to see The Nutcracker Ballet and
we had a lovely date night with dinner out on the town.

Remember those cookies that Jack put his name on?
The swirly sparkly ones?
Here's how I made them, and how your munchkin can help you!
Start with a plain cookie.
These have been flooded with white royal icing and dried overnight.
Although I've never tried it,
I'm sure this would work the same on fondant, or even a plain cookie!

A couple times a year my munchkins like to help with the cookie decorating.
Christmas is definitely one of them.
Except....the fancy cookies that I make on a regular basis aren't exactly kiddo friendly.
They end up with icing running off the cookie and all over their hands.
Faces they draw with icing look more than a bit 'Dali-esque"

Summer is finally over for us.
The boys have returned to school and the weather (as usual in SoCal for early September)
has turned to something between sizzling and scorching.
I baked lots and lots over the summer while it was still cool enough to turn on the oven.
But these were my favorites, so I wanted to share them with you
on my first day back from summer vacation.

School is finally out!
FINALLY!!!
I know, the rest of the country has been out for ages,
but our boys just had their last day a week ago.
On the last day of school, Ethan came home, opened up his backpack,
and filled the recycle bin to overflowing with homework, study guides and tests.
His homework agenda/calendar was thrown on top with a little extra flair.

May Day baskets in Mrs. Beam's third grade class.
