Mouse Ear Cookies!

Look at those EARS!!

(sorry...couldn't help myself)

I've always loved the look of 'Mouse Ear' cookies.

Kids love them.  I think they always will.

The only thing I don't like about them,
is handing a cookie that has been covered in black icing to a munchkin.

I know the black food coloring is perfectly fine.
I'm sure its been tested backwards, forwards and upside-down.

If anyone sprouted a tail and purple hair from eating one,
we would have heard about it by now.

But....

1.  It takes an awful lot of food coloring to get to deep, dark black.

2.  I don't even want to tell you what my sink looks like after I clean out the bowl.

3.  Have you ever looked in a child's mouth after they've eaten their thirteenth black cookie?

'nuff said.

So....

...those ears don't haaaaave to be black.

No matter what color they are,

No one, anywhere, ever...

...has to ask what they are!

Happy First Birthday Chase!

Halloween Cookie Labels!

I've always loved the creepy old labels you can find at Hallowen.
I'm not sure why I've always been so intrigued.

As usual...once I've coveted something long enough....

It becomes a cookie.

Which would you rather have....

Eye of Newt,

Raven's Blood,

or

Poison No. 94?

It's a tough choice...

But that's the spirit of the holiday....right?

Easy Halloween Cookie Pops!

I have a few more Halloween cookies to show you before the big day.
These are seriously easy-peasy!
I don't have step-by-step pictures...but you won't need them.

Step 1
Bake round cookies.

Step 2
Flood your cookie in any color you wish!
(white being the easiest since....icing is already white)

Step 3

Pipe a border in a Halloweenish color with a large writing tip.
I used purple and a #4 tip.
*the larger the tip....the easier it is to pipe a round circle instead of a wonky circle*
Immediately sprinkle on some Halloween sprinkles.

Step 4

Stick something in the middle using stiff royal icing.
I had some extra Halloween mini cookies so I used those.
Be sure to use the same color icing as your base cookie.
That way if some oozes out, you won't notice it.
Let this dry all the way.
You could put anything on here.
Little Halloween marshmallows would be cute.
...or candy corn
..or black licorice cats!
(now I want to redo these with licorice)

Step 5

Using piping consistency royal icing, pipe a line of icing for your stick.
Place your stick in....add a little more icing if you need to!
*make sure you stick it on straight.
Carefully pick up your cookie and check the front before it dries!*

Sweet Sugarbelle
and
Lisa, The Bearfoot Baker
both have great tutorials for this!

That's it!
All done!
I'm not sure why food is cuter on a stick....

It just is!
Trick or Treat!

Spiders and Web Cookies!

I'm not particularly scared of spiders,

although I know lots of people are.

For me...its the web.

As a munchkin, I saw a movie in which an entire town
 was slooooooowly covered in spiderwebs.

BLECH!

As long as I can see the spider smack dab in the middle of its little home,

I'm totally fine.

But oh mercy....

..there's a grand-daddy of a web spinner that hangs out around our mailbox.

The webs are huge.

The kind of huge that makes little boys stop in their tracks in the morning

when its all covered in dew and say...

"WHOOOOOOAAAAAA!

Mom!  You gotta see this!"

"Yes, thank you.  I saw it yesterday, and the day before.

Sure I'll see that tomorrow too...let's move it along."

AND...that spider is NEVER there.

NEVER.

I'm sure that dang spider is hiding in the bush

just laughing his little legs off at me.

I like these two better.

Meet Lucy and Ethel.

(I happen to think they're less creepy if they have names)

Witch Hat Cookies!

I received the following letter yesterday....

Dear Ms. Lizy B,

While we appreciate your concern for the lack of imagination shown in our wardrobes, your recent shoe designs have created quite an alarming trend.

Our teenagers are now refusing to wear their hats,
stating that they are unfashionable and stifle their creativity.

This is completely unacceptable.

Unless you create a solution to this matter,
we will be forced to visit and 'inspire' you in person.

We thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Madame Jainie Grey
Chairman of the Board of Magical Education

Um.

Yes Ma'am.

If you happen to win the giveaway...and make witch shoes...

Please don't forget a hat.

Good Luck!  Winner will be announced Wednesday!

Halloween Cookie Cutter Giveaway!

*giveaway at the bottom!*

After I reposted those witch shoe cookies,
I had a record number of emails asking me,

"Where ever did you find that Witchy Shoe Cutter??"

Uh....hmmmm.

That would be a good thing to know wouldn't it?

Well, I was out and about today, and there it was!!

Yay!!!

It was just sitting on the shelf, minding its own business, when some crazy lady
(me)
started clapping her hands and jumping up and down.

...and then, do you remember those spider sprinkles?

I found those too!

Oh my word!

Because I have an addiction to stickers..
I threw some of those in, why not?

All for you!

Yup!

Now you can make your very own witchy shoes!!!

The FOUR Mummies...a family update

Please enjoy the following Halloween Cookie remix...
Mummy Family Update at the bottom!

Once upon a time, there were 4 mummies...

The first mummy was cheerful because he came through a
very important birthday unscathed.

His wife didn't write about him on her blog
(even though she loves him very much and this was extremely hard to do),
he didn't have to eat cake or open presents.

It was probably one of his best birthdays ever.

The second mummy was cheerful because
he got to go to the super cool car show with the other cheerful mummy
and look at guy stuff like engines and wheels...

...and bring home RC cars...

He also has a really great new 5th grade teacher
who gives a normal amount of homework.

This means the mummy has a social life again and no longer hates school!

Whew....

....and then there was the third mummy.

The third mummy was mad as heck because he had his
tonsils and adenoids ripped out of his head.

This mummy decided life was miserable,
and refused to eat or drink anything...

except diet coke.

No ice cream.

No popsicles.

Just diet coke.

He's really mad at his mom for letting this happen.

His eyes are crossed because 5 year old mummies get a little loopy when they have
to take vicodin 4 times a day.

There should be a fourth mummy.

She's not here.

She might be hiding in the closet with the remainder of the vicodin
until the whole thing blows over....

(someone let me know when its safe to come out...)

*update*

Grumpy mummy healed and is once again eating popsicles
and has given up the hard stuff (diet coke).

Daddy mummy has had another successfully quiet birthday.
(love ya honey!)

Fifth grade Mummy is now Sixth grade mummy.
Looks like he'll have another great year that may or may not involve girls...

Mommy mummy....

Mommy mummy came out of the closet,
but the vicodin is still in there in case of emergencies.

(please see above comment regarding Sixth grade mummy and girls)
