Using Pumpkin Carving Stencils As Halloween Cookie Designs!

I HATE carving pumpkins.
I do, its true.
To be honest, it's more the hollowing out and scooping and the smell...ugh. I wish I liked it, pinkie swear!

I wish it so much that I constantly buy those pumpkin carving stencil books that are next to the checkout stand at the grocery store.
This year I was determined to do SOMETHING with the darn books. (or else I was gonna have to bring home an actual pumpkin!)

So I tried them out on a cookie....

Whoops....that's a bit blurry!

I tore out a page, reduced it by 50% on my copier/printer and threw it in my kopykake.

The silhouettes are painted with a little brush and black food coloring.

Waaaaaaay less stinky than a pumpkin.
This tree was a bit smaller than my ginormous pumpkin cookie  so I just added some tombstones on the sides and made the branches bigger.

You could also print these images out on card stock and cut them out. Then just trace around the image and color it in.
Or....y'know....buy a pumpkin and carve that.

Easy Halloween Cookie Pops!

I have a few more Halloween cookies to show you before the big day.

These are seriously easy-peasy!

I don't have step-by-step pictures...but you won't need them.

Step 1 Bake round cookies.

Step 2 Flood your cookie in any color you wish! (white being the easiest since....icing is already white)

Step 3
Pipe a border in a Halloweenish color with a large writing tip. I used purple and a #4 tip. *the larger the tip....the easier it is to pipe a round circle instead of a wonky circle* Immediately sprinkle on some Halloween sprinkles.

Step 4
Stick something in the middle using stiff royal icing. I had some extra Halloween mini cookies so I used those. Be sure to use the same color icing as your base cookie. That way if some oozes out, you won't notice it. Let this dry all the way. You could put anything on here. Little Halloween marshmallows would be cute. ...or candy corn ..or black licorice cats! (now I want to redo these with licorice)

Step 5
Using piping consistency royal icing, pipe a line of icing for your stick. Place your stick in....add a little more icing if you need to! *make sure you stick it on straight.   Carefully pick up your cookie and check the front before it dries!*

That's it! All done! I'm not sure why food is cuter on a stick....

2.  They are always made with smiles. You can't be grumpy and make cute cookies.

Bat Cookies for Halloween!

I've been told by a very reliable source that I have a huge and loyal following among eight and nine year old girls in Virginia.  

I thought I'd do a little series of Halloween jokes just for them!

Gone Batty....

So...its still not Halloween yet.
That means, we're still covered in black and orange icing here at our house.

...in fact, we've gone a little BATTY!

(could you just pretend you hear 'Haunted Mansion'

One night, a few months ago, we had a bat hang out on our window screen for an hour or so.

I realize this has nothing to do with cookies.

But it was a very cool moment for my 11 year old.

It's not often you see a bat up close....upside down....at eye-level.

They're furrier than I would have thought.

However, they are 100% as creepy as I expected.

Way worse than spiders.

Seriously.

 I like the sugar cookie version better.

I made sure they didn't have any teeth.
