Take A Peek Tuesday! Controlling Those Cookie Sheets!

Cookie Sheets are one of those things that seem to breed behind your back.
Never enough room for the dang things.

Then, if you stack them up...your favorite is always on the very bottom of the pile.
Every....single....time.
I'm not sure how that's even possible, but its true.

So when I thought about where to store them in my kitchen,
I took a few things into consideration....

1.  I'm lazy and will always use the cookie sheet on the top of the stack.
Even if its warped and burns cookies, I will still use it.

2.  I'm lazy and hate to bend over to pull items out of bottom cabinets.

3.  I'm lazy and hate having to move things around to put them away.

4.  I'm lazy and if I need something, I don't want to have to go very far to get it.

What does that all mean?

1. My cookie sheets need to be stored on their sides, not stacked.

2.  I need to put them eye-level or higher.
This is trickier than it sounds...most upper cabinets are not deep.

3.  This needs to be a BIG cabinet that will hold TONS of cookie sheets.

4.  They need to be close to the oven and my workspace.

Where would that be?
Above the oven!

Can't get much closer to the oven than that!

I do all my cookie rolling/cutting on the center island right across from the oven...

...its super convenient for that too!

I think a lot of people store cookie sheets up there.

Do You?

I remember seeing a custom cabinet option with dividers when we re-did our kitchen.

That's way too much commitment for me.

and I've used these ever since!

Love 'em!!!

I can change the widths anytime I need to.
I can add some and make more slots...or take some away!

If you'd like to see which ones and which size I used,
you can see them HERE at my Amazon store.

I bought mine from Jo-Ann's and I'm sure you could find them at Hobby Lobby or even Wall-Mart.
(and don't forget your coupons!)

Just be sure to measure your cabinet before you leave the house...they come in a zillion different sizes!

Next week....my very Favorite Cookie Sheets!!!

Thanks for stopping by! Lizy B

  1. GENUS! Why did I not think of this before?? Looks like I have some organizing to do. (And, you're so right, every time I go for my favorite cookie sheet it is always.on.the.bottom!)

  3. About 20 years ago, when we redid our kitchen, I told the designer guy that I wanted a cabinet with no shelf so I could store my cookie sheets and cutting boards in there. He looked at me like I had a third eye! I tried to explain that I wanted them standing on edge, and he still didn't 'get it'. When the cabinet came, it was standard, with a center shelf (he said he knew what I meant....but he was an idiot!)....so my brilliant installation guy took his scroll saw and cut out the shelf! Perfect! I REALLY like the idea of the curtain rods, too.....keeps everything upright and organized! AWESOME! Cuz I'm pretty lazy, too! lol

  4. Super great idea with the tension rods. I'll have to consider that when I get around to organizing my stash. I would, however, be remiss if I didn't ask about the plastic wrap covering your counter. Is that random or intentional? Perhaps another secret to share in the future? Or did I miss something?

  5. People would cry if they saw my baking cupboard it's a huge mess. yours looks amazing. I need to find myself some of those curtain rods and take control instead of fearing an avalanche every time i pull something out

  6. Wow, this is one of those "why didn't I think of that" moments! Ingenious! On my way to Walmart today. I, too, am in the lazy baker's club. I even stack my cooling racks on top of my cookie sheets and it's such a pain. Love your blog! Thanks!

    1. I tell people all the time....don't think I'm all 'together' because I might be organized....I'm organized because I'm too lazy to work hard at finding anything!!!!

  7. I've seen that idea but not sure if it was on Martha's site or not. What I'd really like to have is your double oven!!! I just have a range/oven combo. I'm keeping this idea in mind if we ever get to remodel our kitchen.

  13. I love the sideways idea. Because it's true. How does that one always, always end up at the bottom???

I have the exact same cabinet above my oven, but with actual built-in partitions!! And I couldn't love it more!!!!

  16. Fantastic solution! I do have my baking sheets stored sideways, but with something I bought from Pampered Chef...this looks much more efficient!

  17. Mine are stored the same way, along with serving trays, under the kitchen sink. I love having them on their sides and easy to pull out!

  18. Yup, a very clever way to handle them all...And your kitchen is beautiful!!!

  19. Love that idea! We move into our kitchen in 2 weeks, and I will definitely be measuring to see if I can fit any cookie sheets in the top cabinets! Also, super jealous of your double oven :)

  20. this is so clever. When we built our house I had a narrow cabinet created on the side of the stove for cookie sheets. I love your kitchen!I am drooling over your double oven and the microwave NOT above the stove. xo and thank you for sharing at the hop.

  22. I could never reach my cookie sheets if I placed them that high (LOL!), but all in all I think that was a very clever idea you had.

  24. You are SO organised ! However being 'vertically challenged' I have to have everything down at low level!!

  27. That's so clever! my cabinet over my oven hood is not deep enough for cookie sheets, plus my exhaust duct goes up through there as well (WORTH IT for the outside venting). My cutting boards and cookie sheets stand on end in a slender cabinet right next to the oven. Still handy.

I think you must revise your opinion of yourself as lazy - it's EFFICIENT to keep tools next to the workspace where you use them and it's EFFICIENT to grab the first thing off the stack. My husband is an architect and he has designed kitchens. He says most people just put up with poor designs and waste a lot of time.

  28. Awesome idea but we don't have the depth in our upper cabinets. We designed our kitchen with a pull out cabinet with dividers to store cookie sheets and cutting boards. It is a toss up whether we like that cabinet or the pull out garbage/recycling cabinet the best.

  29. LOL! We are lazy in the exact same way! We just moved into our new/first home and I am in the process of putting things away. I have the exact same space above my ovens and I was wondering what I could do with it. It didn't even come with a shelf to take/cut out and I was just thinking of putting a shelf in, hehe. I am going to get more tension rods tomorrow. Those things are so great to use for so many things - from the shower rods to the little cafe rod size.
BTW, started following your blog today ;-)
