Fall Leaf Cookie Tutorial

Fall Leaf cookies are one of my all-time favorites to make.

They also happen to be the cookie that I am most often asked to create a tutorial for.

So.....

Here you go!
These cookies aren't difficult, you just need to move quickly.



Here's what you'll need!


Start with your favorite Sugar Cookie recipe, (you can find my favorite HERE) and bake a variety of leaf shapes.




Icing colors are up to you.
I used (americolor gels):
Orange  Lemon yellow with gold Warm Brown with a touch of black Chocolate Brown with a touch of black
(Piping and Flood consistency for all colors)





Choose three colors for each leaf.

Outline your cookies with piping icing and a number 2 or 3 tip.
Let dry....about 20 minutes or so.

Flood the outer rim of your cookie with the same color as your outline,

exaggerating the inner corners of your leaf just a bit.

IMMEDIATELY (seriously, don't get up and change the channel)

flood with your next color.

I like this ring to be slightly thicker than the first.

Fill in the middle and then grab a toothpick.
(right away!!!  don't let it dry!)









Starting with your toothpick in the center of the cookie, drag it through all three layers out to the top point of your leaf.

You will make the same motion for each point,

wiping off your toothpick between swipes.

Halfway there!

Then, starting at the edge of your cookie,

drag your toothpick between the points into the center.

(keep wiping off that toothpick)

Don't forget to come up from the bottom too!

Let it dry!

That's it!!
Easy-peasy right!?
I cut the stems off of these particular leaves  because they were going to be shipped and I knew they would break.
If your cookies have a stem, just pipe one on with your number 3 tip!

Thanksgiving!

Halloween has come and gone.  The spiders and witches have gone back into hiding.

I must say, its nice not to see zombies hanging out in the neighborhood anymore.
Don't really want to think about where they went.....hm.

Next up....Thanksgiving cookies!

Lots of pretty leaves!

 We don't really get much of the 'leaves changing color' thing here in 

Southern California.  

So we'll just have to pretend.
