Santa's Mustache Cookies!

Something happens when I walk down the gift wrap aisle at my favorite stores.

I see cute bags and instead of thinking...
"Oh I want to put a gift in that!!"...
...my brain says...
"That NEEDS to be a cookie!!!"
So I made these.

I squealed in the middle of Target when I saw it.
(really good way to embarrass your teenage son by the way)

You can't blame me though, can you?

Kind of a cookier's dream come true really....only two colors, no hand-cutting,
no special cutters, easy-peasy.

Well I did use a mustache cutter.....but still one color!

We'll be leaving these out for Santa this year!

I hope I can keep the elf from eating them first!

Elf on the Shelf Cookies!

Does your house have an elf?

Last year we adopted James...

He's a mischievous little stinker sweetheart.

We've found him in closets, on top of the Christmas tree, in my mixer!

One morning we found him under Jack's bed!!
(Which I appreciated, since Jack was supposed to clean under there
and couldn't quite remember to get that done!)

He's quite the little tattletale....
(the elf not Jack....well maybe Jack too)

But with that cute little face....you've just gotta love him.

So if you have an elf in your house...

I hope they catch all the sweet little things
your munchkins do this holiday!

And if you can't find him anywhere....check under the bed!

(and if you need a cutter to make your own elves....
try "Marlene" from Cristin's Cookies.
That's the one I used!
You can find it HERE

Snowflake Cookies for a Frozen Movie Party!

So Olaf made an appearance the other day and introduced himself,
but he wasn't the only cookie I made for the Frozen Movie.
(he was just the most mischievious)

Tammy from Pink Peppermint Designs emailed me when she started planning her Frozen Movie Party and I couldn't wait to play along!

She asked for little 'build-your-own-snowman' sets for the kids to play with and take home.

I love the little bag she put Olaf and his parts in!

Tammy also asked for some sparkly snowflakes in navy and turquoise to match her background....

I love snowflake cookies....and snowflake cookie pops are even better!

Olaf!!!

Oh my word.

Never knew a snowman who liked having his picture taken quite so much.....

Tammy created beautiful printables for this party...
snowman hats for straws, invitations, place cards, labels, banners....

you can find them all in her shop!

Thanks Tammy for inviting me to play along with your girls!!

I hope they had fun!

Whew!

I finally got the little guy in a box!

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!!!

"Look at MEEEEEEEEEE!"

"Am I Cute or What!!!!!"

"I'm Olaf!

(y'know, from that new Disney movie....Frozen)."

"This Lizy B lady turned me into a cookie and I smell like vanilla and sugar.....yummy!"

"She's been trying to take pictures of me all afternoon."

".....and I'm trying to smile and be still.....

But she put me in this huge plate full of sugar....
and it looks just like snow.....

.....and I just can't help myself......"

"SNOW ANGELS!!!!!!!"

Ahem.
Thank you Olaf.

As soon as I catch this little guy and get some pictures of him,
he'll be off to a super secret shoot....

can't wait to link you up to the rest of the photos!

Now where did that little guy go?

Olaf?

Black Royal Icing

In the past 48 hours I've gotten 14 emails asking about black royal icing...
clearly Halloween is upon us.

So I thought I'd post my answers here, in case anyone else was wondering the same thing.

"How do you get your icing so black?"

Here's what I use.

Americolor Super Black.

Americolor comes in three sizes:
small, medium, and crazy cookie lady.

(Here's a link to the medium size)

Americolor Soft Gel Paste Food Coloring 4.5 oz. - Super Black

and since the season of Red icing is almost upon us,
I love the Super Red also.

Americolor Soft Gel Paste Food Coloring 4.5 oz. - Super Red

I start with about 4 ounces of regular royal icing in a glass bowl.

You can find my recipe HERE.

Squeeze in some coloring-that was the size of a lima bean before it spread out.

I spray one squeeze of water from the squirt bottle on the
OPPOSITE side of the coloring.
(The water comes out quickly and will squirt the coloring right back at you!)

And mix-mix-mix!

Look!  A nice shade of....dark grey!

Don't add anymore gel coloring!!!

Don't do it!!

This will get darker after it sits, so wrap it up in saran wrap like Karen taught us all to do.
(She's brilliant!!!)

After about an hour this will be BLACK!

How Black?

Spidery black!

And Black as a Witch's Hat!

Here are some other posts from some great cookie friends about coloring your Royal Icing!
